It was actually a career that I fell into! I started as a Saturday assistant at a salon and absolutely loved it so I stayed. Before that it was never a career that I had even considered!
My career started way back in 1989!
There’s been so many. I’ve been lucky and had some amazing opportunities along the way but the thing I’m probably proudest of is opening my own salon and being part of a successful team.
Definitely cutting! I love any length hair from short pixie cuts to longer length hair.
I love working with all the Tigi Copyright range but my absolute favourite for my hair would have to be the Smooth Booster. It really helps to smooth my naturally frizzy, fluffy hair.
There are so many that not just one stands out. I love the precision of Sassoon, I love the creativity of Tigi. I can take something from watching everyone.
It’s not a meal as such but I absolutely love crisps! All types and all flavours!
I’ve been lucky enough to have travelled to some beautiful countries but I think my favourite has to be Thailand. It was the 1st time that I’d ever been on a long haul flight and I was blown away with how beautiful the beaches were and how kind the Thai people were.
This year I’d signed up to run a marathon so I’ve taken up running, not quite sure if I enjoy it enough to call it a hobby though!
When I was at school I learnt quickly that I was a very hands on person – so decided on being a hairdresser.
10 years – I came from school, worked some Saturdays whilst doing my exams before I started my apprenticeship!
The opportunities we have with TIGI – whether it be the TIGI team coming to the salon and doing sessions with us, or us as a team venturing down to London to do day sessions / courses with them. I also really enjoyed the week I had down in London on a Vidal Sassoon cutting course.
A bit of everything (apart from hair up) I think it’s nice that our columns are varied and we aren’t just doing one thing, each day is different.
TIGI Copyright Volume Lift styling spray – it must be the salons most loved product – I love how it suits almost everybody’s hair.
I don’t particularly have one specific idol – I get inspiration from watching videos online, one of my favourites that I follow is Sophia Hilton she is very inspiring and honest within the hair industry.
Wagamamas – my favourite dish is katsu curry – I also love to replicate this dish at home!
Javea – I have lots of fond childhood memories there, also Barbados – although I have only been once to a family wedding. I will be back!
Walking the dog – he’s a big black labradoodle and his name is Keogh, he loves nothing more than playing with his ball! I also love to cook in my spare time – I love trying new things from my Wagamama cook book.
When I was at school I really liked the idea of doing hair or beauty. My mum used to be a hairdresser years ago and I’m just a sociable person so like getting to know different people especially when your paths wouldn’t normally cross.
14 years. I started in 2006. I came straight from school although I did have nearly 2 years off in between for maternity leaves.
Bobs and short hair. I like the texture and creating sharp shapes. I also love to do balayages as they always look different and there are so many different techniques to use to create what look that you want. I love how colour is much more bespoke now.
I always like to follow Carl bembridge as he does celebs hair – mostly reality stars but he has some really good tips of how to make hair look effortless. I’m always a big fan of lived-in hair rather than big catwalk hair that looks amazing but you would never recreate in the salon.
I love to do karaoke – mainly power ballards… now I’m not saying I’m that good but I’d give Celine a good run! 🙈
Spaghetti Bolognese.
Nerja in Spain. I have really fond memories of a family holiday there and I would love to take my little family there too!
I like to read but only really psychological thrillers. I also like to binge watch everything on netflix… my netflix recommendations are normally psycho killer documentaries or the other end of the scale with easy watch funny sitcoms.
I’ve always wanted to be one since I was a little girl! Either that or a baker (so I could eat all the cakes) not that I even bake that much now, ever haha.
I’ve been working at Harpers for 12 years now! I started in 2007.
I have lots of career highlights! Every time I finish a brides hair on her wedding day with her bridesmaids exactly how she imagined it! Training sessions down in London with Tigi and the photo shoot opportunities we have with them!
Well I would imagine a lot of people would say talk! Ha. I think I enjoy working with longer hair creating beautiful updos and meeting so many different types of people!
Tricky one… I think I would have to say two, not one! The volume lift spray and the colour lustre oil!
I would probably say that I take inspiration from lots of different people, I thinks it’s good to keep an open mind! Everybody has such different individual style!
Oh no, ermmmm…. I don’t think so! Unless you count being the one who’s always right out of me and my partner, of course! Haha.
Anything rich and creamy! Love pasta dishes and absolutely love my puddings too! Mmmm.
I’d like to think I’ve not found it yet! So many more places still to see. Although I do love the Dorset coast, Poole and sandbanks, lots of memories!
I’m not too sure it counts as a hobbie but it has got to be my dog! He’s a miniature schnauzer but he’s definitely not miniature in his personality! He’s the best thing ever and just being out walking him s always one of my favourite things to do out of work!
Because I’ve always had an interest in fashion and was attracted by the creativity and the ability to give people confidence and make them feel good about themselves.
I’ve been working at Harpers since it was established in 2011 however I’ve been working with Emma since 2002!
Working backstage with Tigi at the Download Festival.
I love all aspects but particularly enjoying doing short textured haircuts.
This would have to be TIGi Copyright Volume Lift spray.
Vidal Sassoon for inspiration or for someone’s hair I love it would have to be Sienna Miller.
Definitely chocolate!
Thailand, I thought it was absolutely beautiful.
I enjoy working out, obviously for the physical benefits and also to release those natural endorphins! Especially at the moment!
Ever since I was young I’ve always loved the thought of being a hairdresser, something I’ve always wanted to do! I loved playing with doll’s hair and pretending that I use to work in a salon by creating my own at home, ha ha! I was lucky to fall into my dream job!
I started in June 2014 so 6 years at Harpers! I completed my level 2 & 3 and have been on the salon floor for 2 and a half years!
I’d say that my career highlight was doing the photo shoot in London at the Tigi studio. We got to choose our own models and the styles that we wanted to do! It was a fun experience! I’ve enjoyed the many trips to London with work but that was my favourite!
My favourite things to do in the salon are hair extensions, I’ve trained with beautyworks 2 and a half years ago and I offer multiple methods! I also love colouring and especially love creating my “blonde root shadows” one of my most popular techniques for my clients!
I couldn’t live without Tigi’s copyright oil, it’s smells amazing, and feels amazing in the hair! And suits any hair texture!
I wouldn’t say I have an exact idol but I follow many accounts on Instagram that give me a huge amount of inspiration!
I’d like to say I’m a keen baker! Always had a sweet tooth so making puddings is my favourite!
My favourite food is pasta and steak! Can’t beat a good carbonara or a juicy steak! It’s has to be rare or medium/rare 🙊.
My favourite holiday destination is Santorini, it’s beyond beautiful, such a happy and relaxing place! Highly recommend to anyone! Especially if they’re a foodie!
My hobbies outside of work are going to the gym, making memories with Will and spending time with my nephew & niece every Monday, I love watching them grow up!
Since I was a little girl I’ve always played with my mums hair and tried some crazy styles on her. It’s always been what I wanted to do.
4 1/2 years, I started in Dec 2015.
Going down to London for all Tigi courses!
ALL THINGS COLOUR. Colour has always been my passion from when I was training and I’ve grown so far in my colour knowledge and techniques!
Cloud nine potion and Tigi copyright oil! By far my favourite products!
I follow a lot of local salons on social media and get inspiration from a lot of them!
Playing pool – I used to play for Nottinghamshire county before having Oliver. I don’t have much time for it now but I still love it.
Mc Donald’s (3-4 times a week 🙈).
If I was going abroad it would have to be Turkey! If it was in England definitely Whitby! By far my favourite place!
I absolutely love baking! Mary Berry better watch her back!
From a young age I’ve always been interested in hair, I enjoy plaiting the most as I’ve been able to do it for a while now. I’ve always wanted to be able to colour hair and experiment new things with colour and create different styles.
6 months. I started my apprenticeship in Sept 2019.
Going to Manchester for a day with some of the team members and training days on a Monday.
Highlights on our weekly training days or plaiting and practising my up do’s.
TIGI oil.
Tia Lambourn.
Pizza every time!
Spain.
Does going out for food with friends count? 😂
I’ve always wanted to be a hairdresser! I was one of those girls that always got told off for playing with other people’s hair in school!
Only been working at Harpers for 7 months, I started my apprenticeship in Sept 2019. It feels like longer because I was made to feel like part of the team straight away!
This has got to be when I did my first set of highlights on our weekly training days. I was so happy with how they turned out, proud of myself!
This is training day on a Monday where I can do a wide range of hair, my favourite colour service is highlights! And I love helping the stylists in the week, and I love making teas and coffee.
The cloud nine magic potion, it’s magic! It drys your hair 50% quicker!
My favourite food is lasagna with cheesy garlic bread and peas! But I also love Chinese (especially the chicken balls!) and Nandos!
My favourite holiday destination so far is definitely France, we visited Monaco and it was amazing! I also love going to Newquay in Cornwall because we can take the dogs with us!
I play football for Belper Sports U18’s, and I can’t miss a week of going out to eat with my friends.
School told me it would be an ideal job for me because I talk a lot (apparently we’re renowned for that).
I started in July 2015.
There have been a fair few with all the opportunities we are given but my personal highlights so far have been my days in Manchester completing the Beautyworks extension courses.
Definitely extensions! I enjoy doing all methods, Nano bonds, stick tips, tapes!
This has to be the Tigi Copyright Lustre Oil.
Sophia Hilton, for her passion, drive and enthusiasm. Hugely inspirational to watch and listen to.
I’m a master of the Rubik’s cube.
It’s no secret I’m addicted to McDonalds!
Goa – India! By far the most amazing experience to date.
Anybody who knows me knows I have a love for horses and riding which has currently taken a back seat so I can pursue my latest hobby of being a dance mum!
